Mark Diaz Jr started his journey in Martials Arts in 2005. He has always been an athletic person growing up and getting into Martial Arts was the next step. He began training at the United Studios of Self Defense in Murray Utah. After a few months of training he transferred to the Riverton Utah USSD under the instruction of Master David Garvey. He began teaching in the Riverton Utah studio in early 2006.
Later in 2006 he joined the USSD Instructors Academy under the instruction of Master Russell Clegg. During his time in the instructor’s academy he sharpened his teaching and communication skills. He was always near the top of his class in performance and martial arts skill. On May 4th, 2007 he graduated from the Instructors Academy with high honors. He continued to teach in the Riverton studio for the next year. On July 12th, 2008 in the West Jordan studio he received his first-degree Black Belt.
On August 4th, 2008 he became the Chief Instructor at the United Studios of Self Defense in South Jordan Utah. He has been an active member of the community ever since. He has also had the pleasure of training military personnel on multiple occasions, as well as volunteering at local schools teaching self-defense, bully prevention programs, field days and mentoring youth. He has even helped troubled youth in an after-school program called TheDream Center. In 2010 he was awarded Instructor of the year for his dedication to the art and teaching. On October 24th, 2011 in the Riverton studio he received his second-degree Black Belt.
Mark has always continued to update and enhance his training. He has taken many trips around the country, taking lessons and participating in seminars with many different Martial Arts Masters. He has become proficient in many forms including combat grappling, throws, take-downs, holds & locks, pressure points, boxing, striking, unarmed combat and armed combat. He also trains in many traditional and non-traditional weapons including bo staff, sword, nunchaku, spear, fan, escrima sticks, knives and firearms.
In 2013 he began training with Master Tyler Martin and Master David Lynton. Under the watchful eye his skill in the martial arts and teaching has never been better. On August 4th, 2014 in Laguna Hills California he received his third-degree Black Belt.
Mr. Diaz continues to train with Master Martin and Master Lynton where together they continue to update and improve the techniques to modern day needs. On January 24th, 2020 he became one of the founding members of TruMotion Martial Arts.
